Parasympathetic nervous system

The parasympathetic branch (PNS) withdraws sympathetic (SNS) branch activity to restore basal homeostasis following an adverse challenge. This branch of the autonomic nervous system (ANS) interacts with the SNS to lower heart rate, reduce blood flow to muscle tissues, decrease blood pressure, while increasing blood flow to the skin and digestive function.
